This set of 6 bar code dishes are made by the contemporary artist Micheal T Schmidt. Each one has a different word including drink, eat, indulge and devour. The pieces are made out of stoneware/soda fired or white earthenware/oxidation, laser print transfer(s), ni-chrome wire, slip-cast porcelain and cast structo-lite base(s).

The dimensions listed are for the cups, the dinner plate is 11″, side plate 8″, and the bowl is 5.75″ x 4″ h. There are some scratches on the plates.

About the artist

Michael is the Interim Head of the Department of Art at Valdosta State University where he has taught ceramics and foundations for over 12 years. His creative works have been featured in more than 130 regional, national and international juried and invitational exhibitions from Georgia to Korea. Michael received his BFA from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater in 1998, studying Graphic Design and Art History.
He received his MFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2001 in Ceramics and Sculpture. Much of his work involves themes of use, function, and a sense of history.

My background is in Graphic Design. I find old signs, advertisements, numbers and typography quite beautiful; in surface and design. I am interested in combining “pottery” with an identity that is aesthetically and conceptually complex, while maintaining or referencing its usability as a functional object.
