Women’s Body Paint by Debra Mcdonald Nangala

$825.00

This is an original piece of contemporary Aboriginal art, which is part of a tradition that dates back fifty thousand years in Australia. The paintings are centered around their spiritual beliefs, and central to their life.  This piece is painted with acrylic on canvas, and is accompanied by its certificate of authenticity.

Debra has a precise, detailed dot style that conveys a traditional essence within her work. She uses a palette of strong earth tones to depict her Dreamings, which are associated with both women’s ceremonial practices and her Country. Debra comes from a lineage of exceptional artists and is the granddaughter of the late, famous, Shorty Lungkata Tjungurrayi.

The large concentric circles represent the ceremonial sites where the women engage in women’s business, such as ‘painting up’ for ceremony. This involves women applying natural pigments to their bodies. Women’s Body Paint is a map of the location where the women travel to paint up their bodies for ceremony.
